Duties

• Safely operate school buses in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and school policies, ensuring the safety of all passengers at all times
• Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, mechanical condition, and readiness for service
• Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and emergency stop procedures when necessary
• Manage behavior on the bus through effective behavior management techniques, fostering a respectful and positive atmosphere
• Communicate clearly with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers in English or multilingual formats to coordinate pickups, drop-offs, and address concerns
• Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected road conditions to maintain schedule integrity
• Assist with loading and unloading students safely, including those requiring paratransit or special accommodations
• Lift heavy items such as backpacks or equipment when necessary while adhering to safety guidelines

Skills

• Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving with a focus on school bus operations
• Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, defensive driving techniques, and heavy lifting safety procedures
• First aid certification (including CPR) and familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation incidents
• Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse communities
• Experience working with children or in childcare environments; ability to manage behavior effectively
• Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems for basic troubleshooting and maintenance awareness
• Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle inquiries professionally
• Knowledge of school policies related to transportation and safety regulations
• Ability to respond quickly and calmly during emergencies or unexpected situations
